Wisdom.
What do you think of when you hear that word?
Maybe you think about King Solomon from the Bible and how wise he was. How got the truth out of two women about the death of a baby. How he offered to cut the living baby in two.
Or you think about some person from history that made an epic decision, or a teacher who explained stuff like nobody else, or a parent or grandparent who pointed you in the right direction, or an author who just has such an amazing understanding of her subject matter.
I’ve been thinking about it for awhile. My brain does that, you know?
And, sure, wisdom does show up in the big stuff. But, it’s there in the little stuff, too.
- Deciding that you don’t really need that second helping of pasta (even though, let’s be honest, pasta is amazing).
- Deciding that it’s okay to reward your 4, 6, and 10 year-old helpers with ice cream after they helped you “plant” part of your garden.
- Choosing to go to work even though you’d rather call in “sick”.
- Sticking out a tough conversation even though you’d rather run away from it.
- Pausing the hustle to make some time for self-care.
- Taking a break from weeding the garden because your kitten wants to cuddle.
- Knowing when you’ve had enough cherries.
- Knowing the difference between being a navigator and a backseat driver.
- Deciding not to post that thing on Facebook because it just wouldn’t be a good idea, really.
So, big decision, little decision, there’s wisdom everywhere.
And if you don’t make the best decisions, don’t get all bent out of shape. Don’t beat yourself up. Give yourself grace. Use wisdom. Learn from it and grow.
