I just got back from four days at a lake house. Without WiFi! Oh the horror!!!

Actually, it was quite nice. There was enough signal for occasional checks of social media, but I didn’t want to use a ton of data, so I had to choose wisely and fill my time with things other than screen time.

I read a whole book (which I shall write a whole post about later) and finished another one. I paddle boarded for about ten minutes. And then I opted to float on a tube so I could be partially immersed in the water and thus be cooler. It was over 90°.

I spent some valuable one on one time with my sister and my niece. We floated and chatted and told stories and read stories. It was wonderful.

We built fires in the fire pit and set fire to marshmallows and smashed them between graham crackers and chocolate. We told the nine-year-old about how we learned to toast marshmallows

There were fireworks going off every night, so I feel asleep to the sound of the explosions. That made it super easy to fall asleep to the sound of fireworks on the fourth. It was weird not hearing them on the fifth.

I played Goldilocks, sleeping on a different bed every night. My niece thought that sounded like fun. And she agreed that trying out different beds was definitely more fun than sampling different bowls of porridge.

It was good relaxation, good company, good weather. It was just what I needed.
