Being a caregiver requires a lot of flexibility of schedule, not to mention a host of other things including empathy, patience, and a sense of humor.
Because of this, I am not able to work full time. Not an easy choice, but one I have been okay with making thus far. It has meant that I have had to be more creative in finding sources of income.
I have a part time job that I really do enjoy and it has led to other short term projects. I get paid to find mistakes–something I can’t help but do anyway. I could probably use a proofreader. Sometimes I stare at my writing for so long I go blind to any mistakes I might have made.
That’s why I think everybody could use a proofreader or an editor, or just someone to look over everything to make sure the formatting looks alright. You’d be surprised at how easily I can spot spacing or font size differences. But that’s due to 7 years of grading papers with required 12pt font size and double spacing with one inch margins.
I do have to add that I’m good at finding information on the internet. It’s kind of fun. Pull out my phone, go to the search engine, and I’m off on an information hunt.
So I read and I write and I try to find enough work to fill in the gaps so I can stay a caregiver. If I can’t keep filling in the gaps, then I will have to step aside and someone else will have to step in.
