The comical, fantastical, romantical, (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey. In My Lady Jane, coauthors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows have created a one-of-a-kind fantasy in the tradition of The Princess Bride, featuring a reluctant king, an even more reluctant queen, a noble steed, and only a passing resemblance to actual history—because sometimes history needs a little help.
At sixteen, Lady Jane Grey is about to be married off to a stranger and caught up in a conspiracy to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But those trifling problems aren’t for Jane to worry about. Jane is about to become the Queen of England.

Just from reading this blurb and the bit on the back of the book, I had to buy it and read it as soon as possible. So I took it with me to the lake. If I hadn’t felt the need to eat or spend time with my sister, I would have read all of this book at one go. The writing is amazing. The story just sucked me in. Not only is it historical fiction, which I love, but it’s fantasy, too, which I also love. Usually with retellings of historical events, I can be a bit skeptical. But, I had no such doubts after I read the first few pages. It was sarcastic and funny and full of wit. I’d like to be friends with Jane, Edward, G, Bess, and Gracie.
Not sure how many times and how many ways I can say this, but I really enjoyed this book.
A note, the authors help out history, telling it how it should have ended. So you shouldn’t go into this expecting an accurate retelling. But expect a fun adventure through history.
